Welcome to DentalDDx
DDx is a medical abbreviation for differential diagnosis.
A what…?
A differential diagnosis is basically a list of POSSIBLE causes of a problem. In dentistry, that could mean that you have a toothache, but it isn’t exactly clear what is causing the toothache… It could be a fracture that can’t be seen on an x-ray, an big cavity that’s created an infection, or the result of a nighttime grinding habit you might not know you have. Your dentist’s job is to ask you questions, review your medical history, perform tests and complete an exam, and determine a final diagnosis from a list of differential diagnoses.
If you still don’t completely understand, think about when you type in a few symptoms you’re experiencing into WebMD and five minutes later you think you’re either suffering from a brain aneurysm, having a stroke, or have Meniere’s disease. Those are all differential diagnoses. In reality, you’re just hungover (final diagnosis = hangover).
The goal of this platform is to simplify dentistry; to make all the technical terminology you hear at your dental office (what are all those numbers you’re saying and why are you stabbing my gums?), the influencer posts you see on social media, and the plethora of promotions you see on TV and at the grocery store EASY TO UNDERSTAND.
We want to help you determine:
The condition of your dental health
What to look for in your dental products
What questions to ask your dentist
In other words, by utilizing our platform, you will learn how to ask the right questions, create a list of potential problems (differential diagnoses), and determine the appropriate solutions to those problems.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, we are here to help. Our team is readily available to answer any questions you might have; expand on any topics you read about on (or off) our site; and provide second opinions for recommendations you’ve received from family, friends, or even your dental provider at NO COST to you, ever.
